Very rarely do I find what I would call a tasty cocktail at those family-friendly restaurants, the kind with kids menus and crayons and blinky coaster-pagers. Sometimes, there is not even a palatable one among the pineappley rum shakes and cloyingly pre-yucky margaritas. But in Austin at Shady Grove, part of the Chuy's/Comida Deluxe group, there is a drink called the Shady Thang that I think deserves honorable mention. It is basically a frozen margarita, minus the ta'kill ya, sub Pisco brandy and Vodka. I don't know ratios as I haven't tried to recreate it at home. If there are any former or current Comida employees who would like to leak the secret recipe I would greatly appreciate it. Until then, I will enjoy drinking the experiments.

Did you ever get a response to this? The Shady Thang is my favorite "margarita", hands-down. There's nothing worse than being in the mood for a good margarita and going somewhere where they serve something that tastes like it was made HOURS ago, or like a powdery lime-flavored mix was used to concoct the drink. Gross! I would LOVE to get the Shady Thang recipe, or if you've come up with something close enough, would you share yours? I'd be ever-so-grateful.
Thanks,
Jen

Hi Jen
Suprisingly, nobody ever took the bait. I figured SOMEBODY out there would want to spill the beans, but no such luck. However, since the time I posted this originally I now do some business with that establishment, so I will ask around there. If I find something out I'll be sure to let you know!

Thanks!
I was there again Saturday night and had 2 of these heavenly concoctions. I considered asking them myself, but I was too chicken and figured they wouldn't give it to me.
