Dale/David Project #42--Salt & Pepper Highball

This is the highball version of the Salt and Pepper Martini I posted about below. If I had noticed this earlier I would have posted them together. Instead, I found it while scanning the book trying to figure out what to do with an "open" grapefruit.

According to Dale, he created this drink as a response to the Salty Dog, which he liked the idea of but the recipe for which he thought was boring. This is a wetter version of the S & P Martini, with 3 full ounces of grapefruit juice as opposed to 3/4 oz.

This is a sweet drink but a delicious starting off point for people who are getting into cocktails. I would recommend this to anyone drinking something salty dog-like as a "next step."

Wow, I'm totally impressed with the pace you are setting for this project! More than 42 cocktails in less than a month. I find my limit is about 5 Savoy Cocktails a week, (in addition to my regular drinking.) Any more and things start getting lost.

Cheers!

Thanks Erik
I didn't put it together that you were the gentleman who has been "stomping through the Savoy"... When I first found out about your project I almost didn't start this one, but decided that the books are different enough that it was still a worthwhile effort.
As for the pace, we'll see how it goes! in addition to the obvious time commitment, the Dale/David Project strikes a heavy blow at the pocketbook as well as the waistline.

Yeah, that whole eje vs. erik_flannestad vs. ejellest multiple nom de web thing confuses a lot of people.

I'm glad you decided to continue! The more the merrier!

Mr. DeGroff's book is a great choice for a modern classic. Plus, most of the recipes are well worn and tested through professional experience behind the bar. Something I am not so sure is the case in the Savoy Cocktail Book.

Cheers!
