Dale/David Project #69--The Banshee

The Banshee is another demented member of the Grasshopper family (along with the Pink Squirrel), identical except for the substitution of Creme de Banana for the Creme de Menthe. This is the type of drink that I would usually avoid, except in circumstances such as this one, in which I came up empty handed after a freezer raid looking for ice cream. In a pinch, a sweet creamy cocktail like this one satisfies.

The Banshee is nice enough but I prefer the Grasshopper

Sam:

Hmm...does this recipe call for Irish Cream, Kahlua and vodka like Hiram Walker's Grasshopper? Here's the recipe from their site:

Grasshopper
1/4 oz. Kahlua Coffee Liqueur
1/4 oz. Carolans Irish Cream
1/2 oz. Hiram Walker Crème de Menthe
1/2 oz. Stolichnaya Vodka

Tex:

My sources say...NO.
That recipe sounds sketchy to me. The versions I see always have creme de menthe, creme de cacao and cream. Maybe the same company owns all of these brands and this is just a sales ploy.

Grasshopper family cocktail is one of my favorite "for female guests" cocktails.

liqueur + white creme de cacao + cream. Shake. Cocktail glass.

creme de menthe green = Grasshopper

creme de banana = Banshee

cherry brandy = Dusty Rose

Galliano = Golden Cadillac

and my own creature:

blue curacao = Sapphire (please use quality liqueur like Bols for natural bitter orange flavor)
