Today I had the good fortune of getting to do a guest post on the Daily Traveler blog at Conde Nast Traveler. Please check it out if you feel like hearing me spout off about Margaritas (again) and Mexican Martinis.

Homeboy pouring the Mexican Martini at Cedar Door (I personally do not like my margarita love juice running down the side of a glass that has been pawed by several people; but mainly I don't like my margarita love juice to come from a mix)
I discovered today that we had gotten some props from them a couple of weeks ago.

That pour is scary, scary stuff.
Nice little article there sir. Well done. And a good recipe for the city's favorite cocktail.

There are some good spots within a mile or so of the festival:
On Barton Springs Rd, there is Uncle Billy's Brew & Cue, which has great beers brewed in house by Brian Peters. I have mentioned the place on here many times. However, I don't recommend the food. I would get a couple beers, then go a few doors down to Green Mesquite BBQ, or over to Shady Grove for some chicken fried steak. P. Terry's burgers is also in that same stretch.
If your friend wants to get away from the ACL crowd, I recommend going down S. 1st to the South Austin Trailer Park & Eatery, where Torchy's Tacos and Shuggies Burgers & Shakes are both available. I also think Matt's El Rancho is a reliable place to get Tex Mex and Margaritas.
The best hole-in-the-wall joints I can think of downtown are Mike's Pub on 7th st, which has cold beer (AB products mostly) and good burgers and not much else. The Hoffbrau has griddled steaks and thick-ass fries. Both of these places are open on Friday. Also House Park BBQ on 12th st, it's only open 11-2:30 M-F.
